Rutgers Oral History Archives

 

Since 1994, the Rutgers Oral History Archives (ROHA) has been recording the life narratives of:

  • Alumni and/or New Jersey residents who served during times of conflict
  • People with a story to tell about New Jersey’s rich social and cultural history
  • Men and women who helped shape the history of Rutgers University

ROHA’s digital archive features 1,289 life course oral history interviews and over 32,000 pages of fully text-searchable transcripts. All content is available to students, teachers, and scholars free of charge for educational purposes.

The NJHRIC addresses the informational needs of the state’s diverse Hispanic communities, from the newly arrived monolingual immigrant to the English-dominant scholarly researcher. It consists of three components: the Sala Hispanoamericana, the Hispanic Reference Collection, and the Puerto Rican Community Archives.

Sala Hispanoamericana

The largest collection of Spanish–language library resources in New Jersey. Originally established in 1989, La Sala serves as a valuable educational, informational and cultural resource for Latino immigrants.


Hispanic Reference Collection

An English and Spanish language research level collection aimed at the special needs of students and scholars, enabling them to conduct in-depth research into New Jersey’s diverse Hispanic community. Consists of newspaper collections, clippings and oral histories.

Puerto Rican Community Archives
A collection of primary resources on the history and culture of New Jersey’s Puerto Rican community. The archive has accessioned over 50 collections and 600 cubic feet of material.

Digital Collection

The Newark Public Library received a generous grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York to digitize a portion of its historical materials. Our Digital Collections are listed under the New Jersey Hispanic Reseach and Information Center. Read more about the project.
