Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to share that Latinas/os in New Jersey: Histories, Communities, and Cultures (Rutgers University Press, 2025), co-edited by Aldo A. Lauria Santiago and Ulla D. Berg, has been awarded the Richard P. McCormick Prize by the New Jersey Historical Commission. 🏆
The volume, which brings together a collection of extensively researched essays on New Jersey’s diverse Latino communities, was recognized for breaking new ground in the study of the state’s social, demographic, political, and cultural history. The Commission highlighted the book’s significance for New Jersey Studies, Latino Studies, Urban Studies, Ethnic Studies, and Immigration scholarship.
Professor Lauria Santiago serves as Co-Coordinator of the Rutgers Latino Studies Research Initiative (LSRI), and this recognition reflects the broader scholarly and collaborative work supported through LSRI.
The New Jersey Historical Commission will honor the 2025 award recipients at its annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, March 18, from 2–4 p.m., at Monmouth University. The event is free and open to the public, with advance registration required. Please Register Here.
